About Atherton Health Hub
Located in the heart of regional Queensland, Atherton Health Hub is a multidisciplinary practice committed to delivering comprehensive and patient-centred care. Having opened its doors in July 2024, the new practice was built with a clear vision from day one, providing high-quality care, ensuring financial sustainability and serving as a healthcare hub for the local community.
Led by Dr Dan Caines, the team includes general practitioners, nurses and allied health professionals who work together to meet the diverse needs of their patients. Drawing on his experience of using Cubiko in his other practice, Dr Dan knew early on that having visibility into the practice’s performance was essential.
“We brought Cubiko in basically from the start, it was one of our early decisions. When we were trying to rationalise budgets, it was a non-negotiable,” says Dr Dan. “We wanted to ensure the practice was set up for success from the beginning.”
Like many regional practices, Atherton Health Hub faces unique challenges, from navigating complex patient needs to maintaining financial sustainability. For Dr Dan and his team, using Cubiko and Touchstone has been key in benchmarking their performance, ensuring quality care and navigating the complex environment of general practice.
“As a practice owner, it’s hard to know whether what you’re doing is ‘good’ without benchmarking. That’s what Touchstone brings us,” Dr Dan says.
Having his visibility early on gave the team the confidence to make informed decisions and the ability to continuously refine how the practice operates and delivers care.
Benchmarking and visibility that drives better decisions
A key feature that’s made a difference for Atherton Health Hub is Cubiko’s benchmarking tool, Touchstone. This capability allows the practice to compare its performance with similar practices across Australia, providing context to the numbers.
The visibility has helped the team at Atherton Health Hub make smarter, more confident decisions. Whether it’s identifying areas for growth or refining workflows, having access to benchmarking data ensures the team can continually improve.
“It validates what we’re doing and if we’re not where we want to be, it helps us identify the ‘why’ and where to focus,” Dr Dan adds.
Balancing quality care with financial sustainability
Running a general practice in a regional area comes with a unique set of pressures, particularly when it comes to maintaining high-quality care while keeping the business financially viable. For Dr Daniel and the team, Cubiko plays a key role in supporting both goals.
With clear visibility into billings, utilisation, chronic disease management and health assessments, Cubiko helps the team at Atherton Health Hub stay proactive in the care they provide, while also ensuring the practice operates sustainably.
“We can see if our chronic condition management plans are being done, if we’re keeping up with health assessments and if our team is working at capacity,” Dr Dan explains.
By connecting day-to-day performance with patient care outcomes, Cubiko gives the team the insights they need to deliver quality care now and plan confidently for the future.
Building a data-driven foundation
For Atherton Health Hub, implementing Cubiko wasn’t just about tracking numbers, it was about embedding data into the DNA of the practice. From day one, the platform provided real-time insights into patient care, team performance and financial performance.
“It’s a way of measuring how we’re tracking, whether it’s appointments, billings, recalls or patient care,” says Dr Dan. “Without it, we’d be flying blind.”
Cubiko and Touchstone has empowered the Atherton Health Hub team to work proactively, using accurate, up-to-date information to guide daily operations and long-term planning. It’s helped establish a culture where data supports better outcomes for both the business and its patients.
With a strong data foundation and clear visibility into performance, Atherton Health Hub is not only delivering high-quality care today but also building a future where decisions are guided by insight and the practice can continue to grow sustainably while meeting the needs of its community.
