We’re excited to share the results of a partnership we’re incredibly proud of.

Hunter New England Central Coast Primary Health Network (HNECC PHN) has just released their 2026 General Practice Business Viability Insights Report, and the numbers tell a compelling story about what’s possible when PHNs invest in data-driven practice support.

The results are in

189 practices across the Hunter, New England, and Central Coast regions participated in SAVI (the Sustainability and Viability Initiative) with 87% returning for their second year. That kind of engagement says a lot about how practices value the program.

Here’s what changed between 2024 and 2025:

Financial stress dropped from 49% to 36% of practices showing signs of instability.

Strategic planning uptake jumped from 22% to 74% — a massive shift in business capability.

Workforce morale improved from 41% to 58% reporting positively.

Practices struggling to pay bills fell from 50% to 33%.

Practices operating at a quarterly loss reduced from 16% to just 7%.

These aren’t abstract metrics. They represent practice managers sleeping better at night. GPs with more headspace for patient care. Teams that feel supported.

Why equipping practices with data matters

The SAVI report found something we’ve long believed: practices using third-party analytics and automation tools score 3.1 points higher on the viability index than those who don’t.

When you can see your data clearly, billing patterns, appointment utilisation, income trends, you make better decisions. You spot opportunities. You catch problems before they become crises.

Dr Alison Koschel, Executive Manager of Primary Care Workforce and Access at HNECC PHN, put it well: ‘SAVI’s tailored, data-driven approach is helping practices build resilience, improve performance, and sustain viability.’

How the partnership works

Through SAVI, practices across the HNECC PHN region can access Cubiko through subsidised licenses. This removes the barrier to entry and allows practices of all sizes, from solo GPs to large clinics, to benefit from advanced analytics.

In 2026, grants for Cubiko licenses will continue to form a core part of SAVI’s ongoing support, sitting alongside business coaching, workforce development programs, and financial literacy training.

It’s a model that creates value at every level. The PHN gains visibility into regional practice health. Practices gain the tools they need to thrive. Communities benefit from more sustainable access to Primary Health Care.

What this means for other PHNs

Every Primary Health Network faces similar challenges. How do you support practice viability at scale? How do you identify which practices need intensive support? How do you measure whether your interventions are actually working?

SAVI offers a blueprint.

81% of participating practices rated the support as ‘valuable’ or ‘very valuable.’ 22.6% of practices moved up a viability category, exceeding the PHN’s initial expectations.

If your PHN is exploring ways to support general practice sustainability, we’d love to share what we’ve learned from this partnership and discuss how Cubiko might fit within your regional strategy.
